Ford 2.0 EcoBlue Vacuum Pump Failure

The Ford 2.0 EcoBlue diesel engine is known for issues related to vacuum pump failure which is linked to oil contamination, this is typically a sign that the engine's 'wet belt' is deteriorating. The belt's breakdown releases fibres into the oil which can lead to serious complications.

Causes of Vacuum Pump Failure:

Oil Contamination from Wet Belt Deterioration: As the wet timing belt begins to degrade, fibres mix with the engine oil, leading to blockages and contamination.

Clogged Oil Pick-Up Pipe: These fibres can clog the oil pick-up pipe, restricting oil flow to essential engine components, including the vacuum pump.

Reduced Oil Flow and Lubrication: Contaminated oil reduces the pump's effectiveness and increases wear, leading to eventual failure.

Symptoms of a Failing Vacuum Pump:

Hard Brake Pedal: Increased effort is needed to brake effectively due to diminished brake assist.

Hissing Noise: Audible air leaks may indicate compromised vacuum pressure.

Engine Performance Issues: A failing pump can impact turbocharger and EGR system performance due to reduced vacuum levels.

Changing the Wet Belt: Replacing the timing belt and oil pump belt to prevent further contamination.

Replacing the Vacuum Pump: Install a new OEM pump. However, replacing the vacuum pump without also changing the belts and flushing the oil system will likely result in premature failure.
