In the PSA / Ford DW10FD engine, oil pressure solenoid valves play a crucial role in regulating oil flow and maintaining proper oil pressure. When these solenoid valves encounter issues due to carbon buildup and oil sludge, it can significantly impact oil pressure, leading to symptoms that mimic oil pump failure. 

Impact on Oil Pressure and Symptoms Resembling Oil Pump Failure:

Low Oil Pressure: Carbon buildup and oil sludge in the solenoid valves can disrupt the regulation of oil flow. As a result, the engine might experience lower-than-normal oil pressure, which is critical for proper lubrication and cooling.

Symptoms Mimicking Oil Pump Failure: Reduced oil pressure can cause symptoms similar to those of oil pump failure. This includes increased engine noise (such as ticking or knocking sounds), poor engine performance, illuminated oil pressure warning lights on the dashboard, and potential overheating issues due to inadequate lubrication.

Recommended Solution:

To resolve these issues and prevent potential engine failure due to insufficient oil pressure, it's recommended to replace not only the oil pump but also the oil pump chain and the affected oil pressure solenoid valve. This comprehensive approach ensures that the entire oil delivery system is restored to proper working condition.

By replacing the oil pump, oil pump chain (which may suffer wear due to improper oil pressure), and the affected solenoid valve, the engine's oil circulation and pressure regulation will be effectively restored. Regular maintenance, including timely oil changes using manufacturer-recommended oil will help prevent carbon buildup and oil sludge formation, reducing the risk of this issue occurring again in the future.
